Keeping Childrens Stories Alive
The use of computing to support the protection of children from abuse and neglect
Monday June 26th 2006 at University College London
Half Day Requirements Engineering Workshop
Introduction
Recently, there have been several government initiatives relating to children's social care necessitating the introduction of new computer systems. Most software tools used in social care today are simplistic, allowing the recording and elementary presention of data. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) offers further, unexplored opportunities to assist practitioners, particularly in the risk assessment process, imagine:
- Visualisation and presentation tools facilitating the interpretation of case data
- Analysis and alerting tools to aid in the recognition of significant events
- Evidence-based tools offering suggested courses of action based on information in research sources
The aim of the Requirements Engineering Workshop is to explore how ICT can be harnessed to assist practitioners. Findings from the workshop will be used to as input for a research proposal to develop innovative decision support tools for children's social care.
