3DSMax - 14/17

Physique Initialisation

We now need to assign each mesh's verticies to the apropriate bones in our biped. We do this by selecting each mesh or mesh 'group' in turn, and applying the 'physique' modifier to them.

The physique modifier acts as the medium between the mesh and bones, and can be adjusted with 'envelopes' or on a vertex-basis.

Depending on how you imported your character from Poser, you need to select each mesh (or single mesh) and apply the physique modifier. You will need to Unfreeze the meshes before you can select them.

To do this, drop down the modifier list and apply physique. The controls will appear, now you must assign the physique to the root of the biped. So, click the 'attach to node' button, then click the 'select by name' button, then select the biped root then click 'Pick':

You may apply the same physique modifier to multiple meshes if they are symmetrical (shoes, hands etc). Central meshes must be applied individually.
