We now have our character in 3DSMax! Now we can prepare her for Cal3D and PIAVCA.
The first thing to do is (from Customize -> Preferences -> Files) disable 3DSMax's default auto-backup feature which thinks it is a wonderful idea to save 3 copies of your work every 5 minutes. When working with high-quality models like this will result in your computer grinding to a halt every five minutes.
3DSMax has a good undo memory, enable incremental saves, and remember to save regularly.
