Research Associates (Post-Docs)

I am always interested in having strong Post-Docs in my group.

Qualifications

A strong publication record including top conferences such as ASIACRYPT, CRYPTO, EUROCRYPT and TCC.

Funding

You will have to have your own funding or funding will have to be found. It can take up to a year to apply for funding, so contact me well in advance if you do not have your own funding.

How to apply

Send me an e-mail or talk to me at a conference.

PhD students

I am happy to supervise PhD or EngD students.

Qualifications

A strong background in Mathematics or Computer Science. Top student in your class and as a minimum the equivalent of a First (BSc with top marks) or an MSc with Distinction. Good English language skills; in particular excellent written English.

Research area

I work in cryptography and am interested in building cryptographic schemes and mathematically proving that they are secure. I have worked on pairing-based cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, internet voting and mix-nets, signatures, and public-key encryption. My publications can be found at my homepage. You should take a look at a few of them before applying to check that our research interests match.

Funding

You will need funding to cover UCL's fees for PhD students and your own living expenses. UCL has funding for UK students and partial funding for EU students. We have almost no funding for overseas students, who will have to find funding themselves (usually from their home country).

The best chance for funding is provided by UCL SECReT. It is a doctoral training centre with a 4 year PhD programme in security and crime science. They have full funding for UK students and partial funding for EU students. More information about the programme and how to apply can be found from their website here. You can write my name as a potential supervisor on the application form.

The Computer Science Department has some funding for UK residents having lived 3 years in the UK. More information and instructions about how to apply can be found here. You can write my name as a potential supervisor on the application form.

If you have your own funding, or you need to be admitted first in order to apply for funding elsewhere, you can apply at the Department of Computer Science here. You can write my name as a potential supervisor on the application form.

E-mails regarding PhD studentship

If you e-mail me regarding a PhD studentship, please include the following information in the body of the e-mail: Citizenship, degree, GPA, awarding university, how you intend to fund your PhD. Otherwise, I may ignore it.

Visiting PhD students

If you are a PhD student elsewhere and want to visit UCL for a few months the same criteria as described above apply. You will have to pay UCL's fees for PhD students at a pro-rata rate for the time you are visiting.

MSc Students

University College London offers an MSc in Information Security. Please go to http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/teaching/mscisec/ for more information and instructions on how to apply.

Summer Internships

University College London does not offer summer internships.
