2nd year wrap up session 31/5/00
-
Some students found the feedback from the 2B11 miniproject disapointing.
There was a discussion about the merits of marking. Suggestions include:
lecturers to provide general comments and common errors as feedback on
coursework; post-marking meetings for discussion about the coursework.
-
Request for model answers to exams. RH said no (see minutes of 1st
years 2000), but we could have more on exam technique in tutorials.
-
More information about courses and how they relate to exams. AWF
said we were now introducing more detailed syllabi which should help with
this. A request was made for more open-ended exam questions.
-
Problem with uneven load across the two terms - much more in term 1 than
term 2. RH agreed that we would try to avoid this next year.
-
Too much coursework to be handed in at end of second term (7 courseworks
in last 10 days of term). Hard to avoid but in some cases lecturers
should hand the coursework out much earlier to allow students more time.
-
Suggestion to keep one tutor through your degree, useful for getting references.
However, the project supervisor is the best person for a reference who
should know the student well.
-
Complaint about exam timetable being too crammed, but RH said there wasn't
much we could do about it.
