First Year Wrap-Up Session. 31/5/00.
  1. There was a request for there to be more structure to the tutorials.  One student asked for a seminar-style tutorial adding background material andbreadth to the curriculum.  Problem solving in tutorials was suggested.
  2. Request for more down to earth help with programming.  The 1B11 lectures were commended and the lab sessions were mostly appreciated.  There is a need for lab sessions for software engineering and architecture.  At least one student thought that the fact that students had such differing backgrounds in programming skills it would be a good idea to provide an introductory course to bring students to the same level.
  3. There was a request for model answers to exam questions.  Graham Roberts suggested that more tutorial help with exam technique was the solution.
  4. There was a complaint about uneven weighting of courseworks.
  5. Suggestion to have mid-year exams, but RH argued that it would be disruptive to the program, and involved many other difficulties for staff and students.
