Financial Computing Further Information

COMP6006 Financial Computing is a very popular, second term, ancillary module and often becomes oversubscribed before teaching begins at the start of the year.

Full details of the module can be found at http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/teaching/syllabus/ug/6006.htm.  The module is only open to students in their 2nd and 3rd years of study.  Those registering are expected to have a strong foundation in personal computing skills prior to starting the module.

Current Status:

  • This module is now FULL
  • Please note that there is no longer a Waiting List System in place for this module.
  • It is also strongly advised that students register for an alternative module.
  • If you wish you can attend the first lecture in January and discuss with the lecturer to see if there is any remaining space.

FAQs:

  • Which students are eligible to take this module? - This module is aimed at 2nd and 3rd Year Students only. If you are not in your second or third year of study your selection is likely to be rejected unless you have permission from the lecturer.
  • What is the capacity of the module? - The capacity of the Financial Computing module is 80 students.
  • What happens when the module is full? - When the Lecturer declares that the course is full, all further selections will be rejected in Portico and students will need to go to the first lecture in January to see if there are any remaining spaces on the course. Details of when the module will be timetabled will be available at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/timetable in September.
  • I did not register in time.  What are my chances of getting a place? - Your chance of securing a place on the module depends on how many other students are still interested in attending the course in January and how many students transfer out of the module.  Some students tend to drop out in the first week of teaching if the module is not what they expected.  However, we will not know if this will happen until the module begins.
  • Should I register for other modules in the meantime? - Yes, we recommend that you try to find an alternative module in case no places become available for you. If you choose a term 2 module as your alternative you will have a longer period of time in which other students may leave and so create a space for you in COMP6006.
  • I have been rejected.  How do I select an alternative module? - You should decide on an alternative module and go to your home department who can amend your selections for you.  If the alternative module is not based in your home department, then you should get written permission from the teaching department beforehand.
