NOTES OF A WRAP-UP MEETING HELD ON 31 MAY 2006

Year 4 - MSci COMPUTER SCIENCE

Present: GAR (Chair), JFS (Minutes) and 2 students.

1. Pre-Easter examinations
One of the students present asked why 4th year examinations were held before Easter. GAR explained the rationale, and the link to MSc courses.

2. Workload
The students were asked how they found the overall workload in year 4. The two people present found it easier than the 3rd year, but thought that this was perhaps because of their option choices.

3. Subjects that students would have liked to see covered
It was suggested that a course in the HCI area would have been well-received, building on 3C12 Interaction Design. ACTION: to be referred to Teaching Committee, to consider whether any offerings from UCLIC might be appropriate or possible.

4. Printers
In response to a query about whether the facilities provided to students seemed appropriate, it was suggested that additional printers on the 4th floor would be useful. At present there are just 2 (shared between 4 labs) and this is insufficient around coursework deadlines.

5. Late night lab access
The students were asked whether they would have made use of late opening arrangements for CS labs. Those present would not have used this, as they preferred to work from home on their own machines.

6. New courses in finance
The students suggested that the lecturers should be provided with webpages so that course-notes/lecture slides could be made available on-line.
