Unified Mobile Devices Payment Framework IMS

One of the big problems of the mobile payment today is the fact that there are
no standards to follow on. Each vendor and bank and credit card companies’
work according to their own standards, making it extremely challenging to
design and develop a system that will be flexible and scalable enough to work
over all standards and technologies that exist today. When we examine the
technologies that exist just in the mobile phone we see a large array of them
including SMS, USSD, WAP, NFC, RFID, Bump, Square and other proprietary
technologies. The following quote from FST magazine explains the problem “the
lack of uniformity across the different carriers, platforms, and devices makes
a standard solution exceedingly difficult to create. Not only does the
solution have to work on the numerous different makes and models of cellular
devices, it also has to be supported by the various telecommunication
networks. A solution that works on a Nokia might not work on a BlackBerry, and
a payment system supported by AT&T might not be supported by Verizon. The
difficulty of developing a standardized payment solution has played a large
part in why many of the mobile banking attempts have failed to make it out of
the trial stages” .The challenge is to build a solution that can work on top
of all existing technologies and not to develop another technology silo. If we
take for example the telecom market, it had the same problem that the mobile
payment has today, there used to be the Cellular silo, the Cable silo, the
PSTN silo, today the 3GPP group has developed a single architecture that works
on top of the Cellular network as well as the PSTN and the cable networks. The
company would like to explore the possibility of building a technology that
will work transparently on all types of devices will all banks, using the same
business logic for all.

Single mobile application platform

The project aims at investigating the fragmentation in the mobile operating
systems and mobile application development environments between the main
mobile operating systems (iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile 7, Blackberry, and
others).

The goal of the research to create a new cross platform framework, formalism
and appropriate tools that allow high-level design of mobile apps in an
abstract form using the new formalism and then use the appropriate tool to
generate the app for the required platform.

Mobile Remittances – Secure, Compliant Mobile Money Transfer

Today, over 200 million migrants initiate about 1.5 billion cross-border
transactions per year, amounting to USD 400 billion cross border remittances,
and with Industry revenues exceeding USD 15 billion per year. Until recently
the remittance market was not a primary focus of the banking industry; this
has changed. Today the remittance market is becoming a key focus because of
the high revenue potential, scalability, and the exponential growth
expectations for mobile money transfer (MMT).

Introducing our platform, the new mobile remittances solution will need to be
designed to enable cross-border person-to-person mobile initiated payments. It
interconnects global Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and banks over company
unique platform using SWIFT worker remittances standards. The system will
manage the end-to-end remittance lifecycle providing MNO’s with a single point
of contact to remit money to any partner bank in the receiving corridors. With
our platform, registration and initiation should be fast and easy. The
remitter can conveniently initiate a remittance transaction through any mobile
phone using his prepaid or postpaid limits or mobile financial wallet to
transfer the amount. On the side, the beneficiary will collect the money from
any partner bank on the company platform network.

Key Benefits

• Enables convenient and fast mobile remittances
• Secure and reliable
• Flexible service framework
• Scalable
• Robust and transparent
• Global reach to over 9000 banks on SWIFT
• Fast go-to-market plan
• Ready to use solution for MNO’s and Banks

Realtime Bus Information Mobile Application

The aim is to develop a mobile web bus tracker, for iPhone apps and other
smart phone application including Next Bus London, Bus Checker and Twitter
account which tweets you back with your bus arrival details!

If you’re a commuter in London or any other big city, you will no doubt have
at one time or another felt the pain of the waiting ages for a bus. Finally, a
solution is being developed using the mobile web and SMS to give commuters
much needed bus arrival information.

The London bus service isn’t as predictable as the Underground for obvious
reasons. Things such as traffic, crazy school kids, crazy passengers and
accidents all happen hundreds of times every day across nearly a thousand bus
routes, which is why the printed time tables displayed on bus shelters can
only give you approximate times. These times mean nothing if any of the
previous incidents have happened and delay the bus. During the day this is a
pain and at night it could be dangerous if you’re on your own. There also
might be situations where it could be quicker to take the next available bus
and change again rather than wait for your bus to arrive in time. The system
will provide real-time bus arrival information at stops.

Secure Faster Payments Approved Software Service

The first part of project is developing a payment software to become approved
faster payment provider.

The Faster Payments Approved Software Service has been designed to encourage
Solution Suppliers to develop, build, promote and support a compliant standard
of Secure-IP interfaces to meet strict requirements. In turn, this will give
customers the added confidence that their systems will be able to connect
successfully to the Faster Payments service first time and every time. The
development of approved software will have significant benefits to the
company, your student and the payments industry in general. Installing a
secure, reliable and resilient standard of software, which has also been fully
tested for compatibility, means that the quality of the customer’s data input
will be greatly enhanced.

Key features of the Service:
• the company will be identified as a supplier of Approved Software for the
Faster Payments service
• the company will be featured on the software suppliers section of the Bacs
web site
• the company have the opportunity to market Secure-IP software to customers

Who will benefit from the 'Secure IP' compliant solution?

The new 'Secure IP' service will be of particular benefit for the following
purposes:
Businesses making regular CHAPS payments.
Payroll Bureaux wishing to pay wages and salaries with latest data - e.g.
timesheets for weekly pay, overtime, or expenses. Businesses and Payroll
Bureaux which miss the current Bacs 3 day cycle for payroll, and who then have
to resort to relatively expensive CHAPS payments.
Businesses sending urgent salary payments (e.g. for new staff).
Corporate Treasurers / Finance Managers wanting to improve cash management and
profitability either by making last minute business-to-business payments
against known available funds, or making early / prompt payments to obtain
discounts on prices. Local Authorities needing to make urgent benefit payments
(e.g. housing benefits). Businesses which currently have their ERP /
Accountancy / Back office systems integrated to make payments in the APACS
standard 18 format.

Advanced Number Translation System

THE AIM IS TO DEVELOP AN ADVANCED NUMBER TRANSLATION PLATFORM

The platform required is intended to be used as a kind of Advanced Intelligent
Network SCP that is able to work for both legacy networks as well as SIP and
Softswitches networks. The main application of the platform is for NTS (Number
Translation Services) like 800, 900 , etc. services.

Performance
It is imperative that the platform will permit the query of the database at a
rate of at least 300 Queries per second. This rate of queries should be
checked in the worst case when the search shall imply first finding the Call
Party Group Number, the timing parameter and of course the Called party data.
The performance should be checked with the possibility of returning up to 9
different return parameters.

The latency of a response from the moment that a query is placed to the
platform either via SIP protocol or via INAP protocol (to the API) , should
not exceed 600 msec.

The performance should not change in case that instead of one result to be
returned, it will be required to return 9 different results all together.

Cash-less Car Parking System

The goals of the projects are:

Provide a cashless parking system, for trial, that does not require the
customer to pay for the parking ticket at the pay and display machine

The system is to provide on-street cashless parking for individuals.

The components to be developed are:

1. Define individual city parking zones
2.  Define cost structure
3.  IVR for customer registration
4.  SMS for parking registration
5. Web site for customer services
6. Inspector hand-held to check the parking
                                       status of vehicles

Each of these components will be discussed in details. Each with their own
requirements and design.

The system is  mPark will allows the account and parking to be registered
instantly .

City council mPark customers will be limited to one account per mobile phone
number so that the account to be used will be unambiguous when an SMS parking
request is made. The registration used in the request cannot be used to
identify the account as the vehicle registration is not recorded when the
account is created and it allows the customer to use any vehicle with the
system.

Distributed system –Location based Parking and Congesstion charge
Billing

Mobile parking and congestion charge application location based billing in
particlar location etc. signal integrity challange not to charge customers if
not 100% sure he parked his car indoor or outdoor in the city.

The Subscriber Location Tracker Server is responsible for tracking the
location of a subscriber in order for activating locations based billing. If a
Subscriber is registered for an automatic parking service, and has entered a
parking lot, the system will track him, by the Subscriber Location Tracker
Server, and will start billing him.

Example: a person wishes to park thier car at any local council chargeable
parking area or toll roads. You will just need to click on the mobile parking
or congestion charge application. The system will automatically bill the
customer according to its location and the price paid in this particular
location. This is based on customer registering his bank details credit or
debit card on the system.

Security Management (ISO27001) for Small to Medium Size Enterprises.

It has beenestimated that globally, cyber attacks cost between US$169bn and US$226bn per
year. In 2011 it was estimated that the total cost of cyber crime to the UK was
UK£27bn [1]. The major financial losses were associated with the theft of
Intellectual Property and Industrial Espionage. Critical in the protection of
an organization’s infrastructure is the development of a security culture and
the adoption of mature security standards/controls and technology. With limited
resources smaller companies are often unable to focus as closely as they may
wish on information assurance. This lack of information assurance is not just a
problem for the SMEs themselves but also for companies, and consumers, that
engage in electronic commerce with them across the Internet.
This project intendsto address this major problem by identifying an intermediate level of
information security controls and developing entry-level certification for
SMEs, whilst encouraging working towards full compliance with the International
standard where the opportunity arises. Critical challenges in this area are:

Development of mature security controls and measures for SME’s;

Development of information assurance governance structures that facilitate the adoption of
Information assurance within an SME.

Development of risk based trade-off model that support decision making for information assurance
within the SME business model;

A process model for the execution of ISO 27001 process, but targeted at the SME domain.
