Graduate School Skills Development and Training and UCL Advances
The Graduate School's Skills Development Programme is open to all MPhil/PhD and other research students at UCL plus MRes students and Master's students on ESRC Research Recognised programmes.
They have a large selection of centrally organised courses available for research students, including: Scientific Ethics, Research Methods, Writing Theses and Papers, Time Management, Health and Safety, Intellectual Property Rights, Collaborative Training, etc. They also advertise what is available through the department, and provide information about other related ways in which training can be undertaken (e.g. attending conferences, organising and speaking at seminars etc) - see here for a list of these possibilities.
These skills development courses are seen by funding bodies as being valuable training. And while the department does not currently require research students to undertake them as part of the CS PhD programme, the UCL Graduate School does encourage students to attend a selection of training activities as part of their first year programme, indeed throughout their degree.
UCL Advances provides training in entrepreneurship and Continuing Professional Development.
