Graduate School Funding for Training Courses
The Graduate School provides funding for research students to undertake external training and skills development courses which are essential to their research but not available within UCL. This is the External Training Courses Fund.
As with funding for conferences students need to apply to the Graduate School but forms must be submitted to the department first for approval and endorsment. Once the form is complete get your supervisor to sign it, attach all supporting documentation including the abstract and supporting evidence for estimated costs, then hand it all in to the Postgraduate Administrator (room 5.22). Guidelines and regulations for this fund can be downloaded from here.
The department will try to match Graduate School funds but only for self-funded students. This includes DHPA-funded and overseas students on a scholarship from their own country which does not provide additional expenses. Students on a project studentship, DTA or CASE award with additional expenses allocated to them to cover such training costs will not be supported but can and should still apply to the Graduate School External Training Fund. If a student's project has run out of funds please contact the postgraduate administrators who will try to help in exceptional circumstances.
Applications for support from the External Training Courses Fund can be requested on an ad hoc basis throughout the year but they must be submitted in advance (at least one month) of the start of the course. Retrospective applications will not be supported.
