Transfer to Completing Research Status (CRS)

Before you can be transferred to CRS you must:

  • have completed 3 years of full time PhD study (or 5 years part-time);
  • have had a transfer viva and been upgraded from MPhil to PhD;
  • have completed all relevant sections of the Research Log.

If the above three criteria have been fulfilled the following should be done:

  1. Your supervisor should notify the Postgraduate Administrator that he/she wants you to be transferred to CRS status.

  2. You should submit a Table of Contents (TOC)/time schedule to your supervisor, showing how much of the thesis has been completed, and how much work remains.  NB: The remaining work has to be achieved in 12 months or less if previously registered as a full-time student (within 24 months if you have been part-time for at least one year prior to requesting to transfer to CRS).  You must make sure that the timeschedule outlines a month-by-month breakdown of what work will be done in order to complete the thesis within the required time.  This time plan has to be signed by you and your supervisor.

  3. Your supervisor must complete the Transfer to CRS Form.

  4. The completed, signed ToC/time plan and Transfer to CRS form then have to be passed on to the Postgraduate Administrator, for the Graduate Tutor's final approval.

  5. Once approved, the Postgraduate Administrator notifies Registry and Academic Services of your transfer to CRS.

Registry and Academic Services information on CRS can be found here.  And see here for some FAQs about CRS and thesis submission.
