Thesis Submission

When you are nearly ready to submit your thesis for examination there are several stages in the process to be aware of.

  1. You must submit the Exam Entry form first. This can be downloaded from the Current Students section of the University's website.  Please note that if your registration began before 24th September 2007 then you have the choice to submit for either a UCL or UoL award; if you were registered in the first instance after this date you do not have a choice and can only submit for a UCL award. This form needs to be signed by your supervisor, and then passed to the Postgraduate Administrators for the Graduate Tutor's signature.  NB: UCL advises that this form be submitted at least four months before thesis submission.

  2. Secondly, you must ensure that your supervisor completes the Examiners Nomination form.  There are two versions depending on whether you are entering for UCL or UoL, both can be found here.  Only students who first registered before the 24th September 2007 are eligible for the UoL award.  Students registered on or after this date will enter for a UCL award.  Please note that as part of this form you have to include an abstract of your thesis.

  3. When it comes to submitting the thesis you have to prepare two soft bound copies for the viva.  These two copies have to be submitted to Student Records, who are responsible for forwarding them to the approved examiners. NB: Supervisors and students cannot send the viva copies directly to examiners themselves.  You must submit your viva copies of the thesis to Registry and Academic Services with enough time for them to send it to the examiners (at least four weeks in advance of an oral examination).

Registry and Academic Services has put together a list of companies in London who bind theses.  Please see here

You are also advised to read their information on thesis formatting, binding, the summary of the examination process and the rest of the information on their pages concerning research degree submission.
