Extension to CRS

If you know that you will be unable to complete your writing up within the registered period of CRS you may apply for an extension if there are extenuating circumstances beyond your control (work commitments are not considered as grounds for extension).   If you wish to apply for an extension you must discuss this with your supervisor and the Graduate Tutor first.

See the Registry and Academic Services webpage on extensions to CRS for more information and to download the application form.  The form must be passed to the Research Student Administrator for departmental approval.

Late Submission

Please note the below important changes to Academic Regulations:

From the start of the 2010-2011 session, any student who does not submit their thesis by the end of the period of CRS will cease to be registered as a student at this point.  They will not be entitled to access to UCL facilities and services or to supervisory advice and their record will be closed.

In addition, any student who wishes to submit after the end of their CRS registration will require permission to do so; this application must be supported by a student’s supervisor and the department.  You should contact your supervisor and the Postgraduate Administrator if you will be submitting after your period of CRS has ended.

If approved, you will be liable for the late submission fees as explained by Registry and Academic Services here.  You no longer only have to pay a flat-rate late submission fee. The fee increases for every three months your submission is late and is the same rate as home part-time registration.

Please read section 3 (and specifically 3.5) of the 'Academic Regulations for Research Degree Students' for more detailed information.
