How can I access my provisional result letter?

  • The Department of Computer Science will automatically send provisional results letters to all undergraduates and affiliates through the post.

  • You should ensure that your contact address in Portico is correct by 15th June at the latest, as this is the address that will be used to send your letter.

  • The department will not be distributing letters/copies of letters in the department at any time. However provisional results will be displayed in the departmental foyer, (5th Floor, Malet Place Engineering Building), listed by candidate number.

When are they released?

We aim to make provisional results available this year by: 28th June 2013

Please carefully note the following:

  • You will need to allow time for the letter to get to you.
  • We are not able to track your letters once posted, so please do not ask for updates.
  • If you have not received your letter by 20th July, then please email Undergraduate Administrator with your name, student number and address and we will arrange for it to be resent.
  • We are not permitted to communicate marks via email or phone, so please do not ask.
  • Should any delay to the posting of results letters occur, details will be posted here.  If there are no delays mentioned, please assume your results have been sent as expected.
  • Any information you receive from any department about your results will be strictly provisional. Results are not confirmed until they have been ratified by the UCL Board of Examiners.

Resits/Failed Modules

  • Finalists are only permitted to resit failed modules if they fail to achieve an award.

  • If a module is failed, but an award is made, the failed module is still used in the calculation of the result.
  • For further information on the requirements for being made an award, please see http://www.cs.ucl.ac.uk/students/undergraduate_information/assessment/ .
  • Students are only usually permitted to resit a failed module, or module component, once.

  • If you are eligible for a resit, you will be automatically registered for it on Portico and will be expected to sit any failed exams and submit any failed coursework.
Resit Scenario UG Finalists
You still have sufficient credits to progress/be made an award

The default position is that you will be made an award without the option to resit the failed module/s.

You have insufficient credits to progress/be made an award during the current year. You will normally need to resit or repeat the failed modules the following year.
  • All students with resits are advised to check their Portico account in September for a list of the exams and coursework that they are expected to complete over the year.

  • It is your responsibility to confirm to Registry and Academic Services the examinations you wish to re-sit, via on-line module registration using Portico. It is also your responsibility to check with the Department to determine whether you are required to submit new coursework.

  • UCL regulations state that a candidate must complete the assessment for a module within two years of attending that module. This period of two years may be extended at the discretion of UCL Board of Examiners.

  • Students who withdraw from an examination owing to special circumstances will not be regarded as having made an entry and therefore would be taking the examination as if for the first time the next academic year. If you have passed the coursework component already, then the marks you achieved will be brought forward.

  • If you have any questions regarding your options for resitting modules please talk to your Programme Director.

Failing to get an Honours degree

BSc Students who fail to meet the criteria for an Honours Degree may be awarded an Ordinary Degree. For this the student would need to have accumulated at total of at least 11 completed credits with a minimum of 10 passes, with the number of passes at advanced level being not less than 2 for a 12 credit programme. There is no equivalent for the MEng degree.

Students are able to reject an award of an Ordinary Degree and retake any failed final year modules the following year in order to obtain an honours degree. To do this the student must complete and return the necessary paperwork from UCL Registry and Academic Services.

Alternatively they can take up the award of the ordinary degree the following year

Students with an outstanding debt to UCL

All students who will, if successful in their examinations, qualify for the award of a degree, should note that:

  • UCL will withhold the award in the case of any student who is in debt to UCL.
  • This includes any payment due, including tuition and examination fees, fees for UCL residential accommodation and fees to the UCL Library.
  • No report will be made on the student’s results until the debt has been settled in full and attendance at a Graduation Ceremony will not be permitted unless the whole debt has been cleared by the due date.
  •  All other students who are in debt to UCL will have their official results withheld and/or will not be permitted to enrol at any future session.
  • For further details see the UCL Academic Regulations for Students [Section 3]
