Presentaiton on New BT funded work in Oz. UTS - mike fry/atanu/ian - bt work related projects: Hipparch BT Apps Will use BT labs experimental Environ (longterm) For now, use java - shortterm - ucl/flex etc... 4. platfroms for mgmt work A long discussion on discussion - orbix/ilu/etc Ian Marshall actioned us all to pairwise find how we need to interwork (whether peer-peer via Idl/GIOP or similar, or user to network, or whatever). Reln: action pairwise partners identify s/w, signal/mgmt etc requirement: Lanc OBU OBU UCL UCL IC IC CAM Loughborugh UCL UCL LANC action!!!! possibly [added after post-meeting discussion] LANC-Lough 5. Time and Place of Next Meeting Next meet proposed sep 17 at lancs [OBU people wil lgo, but Geoff Tagg apologised in addvance for a clash...] 6. Interactions with JISC/SuperJANET etc Jon reported on the response from JISC to his letter asking about use of the net (for money) letter will be OCR'ed and distributed to partners. 7 - Network Use (ian marshall): LUT - monitor net we get ucl give us IP on anything and pt-mpt signal service classs non interference level/% lancs - mainly end sys offer from henning - use smal net local, large demo on futures/captive tstbed....? - useful.....all agreed. Cowan: api - for, winsock, jon - generic switch+ agent.... rsvp etc - abstraction versus code 8. lunch 9 - QoS platforms ian m - What is the partners take on QoS? lut - monitor - simple (delay+loss - could add thruput from elsewhere0 derive other things from this (in case of SMDS, delay+loss is necessary and sufficient, elsewhere might not be...) "marks out of 10" model for users.... Cam - for qos they are interested in security or integrity UCL - applic model + adapt ianM asked if we had a project Architecture? OBU - new work - whats wanted is range + adapt Hal/IC _ event filters/aggregate/composite - map from external complexity to simple internal view... IC (Nat) mentioned name based binding....and keeping it simple for the application, but compelx i nthe middleware. Lancs - Geoff Coulson had a similar model to IC - framework for adding new service Crowcroft alluded to the problem - adption at 2 levels a problem, non adpation at 2 levels a problem (e.g TCP on ABR, or CBR on CBR wrong rate [aside - he was also thinking about efficient implemenations of the stack, and passing of events or notifications, or signals from the network, up to the application - basically, we need lightweight upcalls, with process group distribution - the way to do this is with reference counts, and group signaling - pegasus (the cambridge research O/S ) could do this easily as per a discussion with Mac at COseners last year.....] Andrew Grace (arbiter of ther debate) need to know aspects ... ianM + andrew grace - factor in earlier action.... The discussion then closed. 10. Actions: All to check minutes and email/contact info All to provide Web versions of slides (or URLs for UCL to link to) All to provide input on the dependancis on managem,ent/distributed systems platforms between WPs. All to check Next Meeting Date and confirm
