OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

The aim of the HIPPARCH workshop is to allow researchers and practioners of state of the art work to present the design and implementation techniques for high performance communication subsystems. Techniques based on Application Level Framing and network conciousness (adaptive, or light-qos aware) are of particular interest. At the workshop results from the ongoing Esprit project HIPPARCH will be presentated and disseminated.

High quality papers from the workshop will be selected, and, after re-review and suitable revisions, be published in a special issue of Computer Networks and ISDN Systems (instructions for authors).

Topics of interest for which original research papers are solicited include:

  • adaptable transmission control mechanisms
  • scalable reliable and semi-reliable multicast protocols
  • efficient implementation techniques
  • Protocol Adaption to mobile and nomadic communication
  • integration of applications and higher layer protocols
  • QoS mapping between applications and protocols, including aggregation and summarisation mechanisms
  • application oriented design of higher layer protocols
  • host system support for high performance continous media (e.g. scheduling for QoS, Multciast etc)

In order to maximise the benefits of a workshop of this nature, we encourage submission of papers which describe on-going research and recent experiences.

SUBMISSION

Full papers, extended abstract or a position statement describing current research are preferably submitted by electronic means, in postscript format to: hipparch98-submissions@cs.ucl.ac.uk or printed on papers and sent to the workshop secretary.

Full or short papers are required for accepted abstracts and position papers. We intend to select some accepted full papers and to recommend them for publication in a journal or magazine.
