Multimedia quality
assessment has focussed on mapping human perception to scales.
I would like to find out more
about which qualities satisfy people's needs and how to assess
them. On a more abstract level I am interested in optimizing the Quality of Experience of applications and services.
I started my PhD research in February 2004. The first two years I was funded
by a European Integrated Project called MAESTRO,
which aimed to deliver multimedia content through a satellite
digital broadcast (SDMB). The goal of this project was to provide
mobile pre-stored television. In order to research user requirements we built a
demonstrator version of this service and have been using it in experiments and field trials.
Since March 2006 I have been working on UNIC, another European Union funded STREP project. In this project we are looking at user requirements in TV centric services (i.e. are delivered through the TV by means of a set top box) and include amongst others: email, web browsing, telephony, video conferencing, internet and standard and high definition TV services (passive and interactive).
