Description: The Department of Informatics is a relatively new addition to the active departments of the University of Athens. It was initially founded as an interdepartmental annex to the Departments of Mathematics and Physics in 1986. A small number of undergraduate students were transfered here from their respective departments and after four years, a new Department was born... The first students were admitted in 1990.

The Department is divided into three integral sections. The first section is devoted to Theoretical Computer Studies as well as Computer Graphics. The second section is devoted to Computational Systems and Applications. The third section is devoted to Telecommunications and Signal Processing.
