The "Istituto di Analisi dei Sistemi ed Informatica" has a well established
research group working in the area of Object-Oriented conceptual modeling,
data and knowledge base design, Object-Oriented application analysis, design
and rapid prototyping. Recently, the research has been focused on reuse
techniques, in particular analysis and conceptual models reuse, by using
intelligent conceptual repositories. On a more theoretical ground, various
problems have been investigated, such as the analysis of the formal
properties of database models (relational, deductive, semantic, object-oriented).
In particular, the group is currently working on the problem of verifying
formal properties of an
Object-Oriented database schema, such as the consistency and the correctness
of the ISA hierarchy in presence of recursive definitions and multiple
inheritance. At an experimental level, a system has been developed, called
MOSAICO, that provides an environment for the conceptual modeling and rapid
prototyping of Object-Oriented database applications. The system MOSAICO
is based on the conceptual language TQL++, a specification language rooted
in the type theory. On the application side, the group is cooperating with
the IBM Italy for the development of a new tool for Object-Oriented analysis
and design of Information Systems. In the past, expert systems have been
developed, within different fields, such as: support in the design of relational
databases, medical diagnosis, railway traffic management and
control.

Name: Michele Missikoff
Nationality: Italian
Academic Qualifications & Experience: Michele Missikoff holds a Doctor in Physics (with a dissertation on Computer Science). He became an Associated Researcher at the Italian National Research Council in March 1980 and a Full Researcher with the same organisation in December 1983.
Michele Missikoff has been an Adjunct Professor with University of Bari
in 1973 and 1974 and with University of Rome in 1975-1977. He became an
Assistant Professor at University of Rome, Faculty of Engineering in 1979
and has been a Lecturer at University of Rome since 1982. Since 1988 Dr.
Missikoff is President of the International Foundation EDBT - Extending
Database Technology.
