Aalborg University

Institute Name: Aalborg University, Department of Computer Science

Description: The Department of Computer Science has been established in the Institute of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University. It is organised into 6 research groups. One of those, namely the Information Systems Group will participate the project. The group comprises 4 members of permanent academic staff and 4 doctoral students. It has undertaken research in requirements engineering for the last 10 years, in various projects and research programs, including the following:

Object-Oriented Analysis & Design Project: The purpose of the project is to develop a methodology for the analysis and design of computer systems based on a combination of classical functional thinking and recent object oriented approaches. This methodology is being developed experimentally through an interplay between theoretical considerations about its form of the methodology and its application in educational/pedagogical and practical settings. The project is funded by the Danish Natural Science Research Council.

Software Factory: Objects, Frameworks & Environments Program: The aim of the program is to develop methodologies, languages and tools for modern software factories. The software factory concept designates the development of high complexity software components by several developers, supported by productive technical and organisational settings. A disciplined development process is created where both products and processes are designed to facilitate human comprehension, effective collaboration and technical flexibility. The program explores theoretical and conceptual foundations of object-oriented software development and develops specific frameworks and environments intended for industrial use or experiments in industrial settings. Particular emphasis has been given to fostering close collaboration between software engineers, language and database designers and tool constructors. The program is funded by the Danish Natural Science Research Council.

Brief CVs of Key Researchers:

Name: Peter Axel Nielsen

Nationality: Danish

Academic Qualifications & Experience: Dr Peter Axel Nielsen is currently associate professor (Lektor) of Information Systems at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Institute for Electronic Systems, Aalborg University. Over the past years he has been engaged in understanding the use of information systems development methodologies (in cooperation with the Dept. of Systems at Lancaster University, UK) in object-oriented modelling and supporting tools(ESPRIT III project EuroCode ), and in techniques for object-oriented requirements engineering in the Software Engineering Program of Aalborg University. His research interests include analysis and design techniques, object-orientation, software project management, domain modelling, the modelling of processes with a focus on recurrent and reusable patterns. Dr. Nielsen is currently the editor of Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems. He has coauthored two books on object-oriented analysis and design(in Danish).
