RENOIR Research Training "Mini-Workshop" Michael Goedicke The 1st Renoir Miniworkshop on Research Training was held from 5th Jan to 7th Jan in Bommerolz House, Witten Bommerholz near Dortmund. About twenty PhD students presented their current work in a short presentation followed by a discussion of the audience and a group of senior academic staff (8. The participants came from all over Europe. In addition the group of senior academics presented important general topics related to the problem of creating a good PhD thesis, which is in many aspect like writing a good paper.

As a resume it can be said that the participants reported that they received good and valuable feedback from the discussions and many of them expressed the wish to participate in such a workshop again. In addition the group exchanged quite often views, problems and important hints i.e. another part the network was useful and at the same time was extended by new contacts. This also included a number of sites which are currently not
