RENOIR Visit report

Dagstuhl Workshop on Scenario Management

Hermann Kaindl
Siemens Austria

The workshop took place from 9-12 Feb, 1998 at Schloss Dagstuhl in Germany. It was organized by X. Tung Bui, John M. Carroll and Matthias Jarke. Following an invitation by the organizers, Hermann Kaindl visited Schloss Dagstuhl in order to attend this workshop.

Scenarios are widely used in several disciplines and from several perspectives, e.g. for requirements engineering. Being primarily interested in the latter use, Hermann Kaindl presented his latest work on a systematic approach to a process for requirements engineering in one of the subgroup meetings. This process makes use of a metamodel that integrates scenarios both with functions and with goals.

From the perspective of requirements engineering, it was also very helpful to meet the people involved in the CREWS (Cooperative Requirements Engineering With Scenarios) project. In the context of this workshop, it was possible to get an overview of the main approaches pursued in this project.

This visit helped primarily broadening the perspective of scenario use. So, it provided very useful input for both further research and requirements engineering practise in industry.
