Getting to London London Heathrow or London Gatwick airports are both international airports. Heathrow : Best by tube to Central London (about 2 pounds, 50 minutes). Unless you plan to sightsee outside London a car is probably a waste of time. Tube fares are based on a zone system, and after 9.30 am you can get One Day Travel cards which allow you unlimited travel within given zones for the rest of the day - that includes train and bus services within that zone too. Zones 1,2 & 3 2.30 pounds. Zones 1-5 2.60 pounds. Gatwick : Best by train to Victoria (express) (5.5 pounds, 35 minutes). You should be able to get a free tube map at any ticket office. For local hotels it is probably best to go to Euston and get a taxi from there unless you have a street map already and know the nearest tube station. To get to the main entrance of UCL you need the north end of Gower Street, close to Euston Square, Warren Street, or Euston tube stations. The LIVENet studio is in the Basement of the Pearson Building, which contains the Computer Science Department and the Statistics Department. The Pearson building has 4 staircases connecting the basement to the other floors. As you enter from the main entrance from the Quad, if you descend by the 3rd staircase, you will find the LIVENet studio entrance immediately on your left at the bottom of the stairs (opposite the lift). Ameneties: Eating Apart from hotels and chain eateries, there is a fairly good selection of restaurants in the Charlotte Street area (other side of Tottenham Court Road from UCL). Greek, Pizza, Pasta, etc. Restaurants Near UCL -------------------- Some suggestions: Lal Qila Tottenham Court Rd Indian 10-15 without drink Excellent food, worth the expense for an occasion Pizza Express Coptic Street - in front of the BM Italian(basically pizza, some pasta and salads) 2 courses ~6 pounds each plus drink (~1 pounds for 0.5L mineral water) (~5-7 pounds (bottle) for wine Usually bustling most weekday evenings(quieter at the weekend), especially when they have live music. One of the best places to get pizza in central london. Ikkyu 67A Tottenham Court Road (near Goodge Street Station) Phone : 636-9280 Japanese 6 to 12 pounds (main course, without drink The Tekamakis (vegetables or raw fish rolled with rice in algae) are particularly good! The Sashimi (raw fish) is good, as well. I haven't tasted other dishes, but some friends that have, seems to have appreciated it. They have a "tatame" room (those with a straw carpet) that you can book (there are two tables: one rectangular for 6 people and another square one for 2-4 people). They open at 12:30h and accept credit cards. Brazilians are specially welcomed :-) (there is a couple of them working there)! Mon Plaisir Montgomery Street a bit expensive 30-40 pounds a head, unless you have the Theatre Dinner or prix-fixe lunch, when it is 15-20 a head. Style is very definitely french Its always wise to book, The Spaghetti House Goodge Street. I recently recommened it for a kosher friend, mainly because we found it good as veggies. Cuisine. Better Italian that Italy. Cost. 18-23 pounds for two with house wine. Everything is good. The fish/salmon salads have *too* much fish. NATRAJ Charlotte Street Nepalese 10pounds for an absolute blowout no drink Standard Indian fare, nice and dry.
