Rosetta Zhang presents poster at the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium 2017

The British Computer Society (BCS) holds an annual, one day conference called the Lovelace Colloquium for female students studying Computer Science at university. All participants are required to prepare and present a poster and there are also a stimulating series of talks covering career advice.

This year, Rosetta Zhang, a first year Computer Science student at UCL, successfully gained a place at the colloquium which was held at Aberystwyth University on 12th April. Her poster topic was “How did AlphaGo beat a legendary Go master?”.

Rosetta explained how AlphaGo won the match against the 18-time world champion, Lee Sedol and the algorithms behind AlphaGo. Her poster and her enthusiasm in presenting the topic were well-received by the judges and her peers.

Rosetta’s group was also the runner-up for the AI Challenge organized by Scott Logic on the eve of the colloquium.

The keynote speaker was Dr Sue Black OBE, and Honorary Professor at UCL, the founder of BCSWomen. She gave an inspiring speech about why she decided to become a Computer Scientist and talked about her campaign to save Bletchley Park.
