Bringing Computer Science to Life: Work Experience at UCLCS

In October, UCLCS enjoyed the company of Izzy Sebire, a sixth form student from Tormead School, Surrey. Izzy, who is passionate about pursuing a career in Computer Science, sent us this reflection on her time with the department:

"As a sixth form student studying computer science and maths, I was lucky enough to do work experience at UCLCS in October half term. During the week, I shadowed experts in exciting disciplines of computer science including interaction design, physical computing, Internet of Things, autonomous systems, machine learning and AI.

I also got to experience what life is like as a researcher at a top university and find out about the interesting projects taking place, as well as career paths. The week included hands on tasks such as paper prototyping, laser cutting, and programming in arduino, which was a language I hadn’t had experience in before. Thank you to everyone for making it an extremely interesting, helpful and enjoyable week, which confirmed the fact that computer science is the field I want to study at university!"

Thank you for joining us, Izzy; we wish you the best of luck with your future endeavours!
