Abstract

We are observing technological innovations at unprecedented speed. They are changing the way individuals interact and do business with each other. Examples of such innovations include digital currencies, peer-to-peer marketplaces, sharing economy, high-frequency trading, among many others. These innovations have dramatically increased the level of interconnectedness between individuals, businesses and devices, and therefore have brought about unprecedented levels of complexity.

Many of these innovations will likely have a strong impact on the economy and the financial system, but little is known about how to quantify their potential effects on market stability, fairness and security.

This presentation will provide critical insights on future risks and opportunities in this regard, discussing core computer science challenges, including: probabilistic modeling, usability, distributed systems, survivability, modelling, verification, security and privacy, high-performance and scalability The presentation will alternate short interventions by:
