Title: Non-rigid tissue surface deformation tracking and surgical tool tracking

Abstract:

In this talk I will be outlining the work I have been doing on recovering tissue deformation and tracking of surgical instruments during robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery (MIS) procedures. For tissue surface tracking, traditional methods based independently on image features or on image intensity have limitations when dealing with homogeneous soft-tissues or complex reflectance and for tool tracking, many vision-based methods suffer from drift and in the case of occlusions, shadows and fast motion can suffer complete tracking failure. Our methods are validated on ex-vivo and in-vivo data, which demonstrated they are promising solutions to challenges in tissue surface and surgical instrument tracking.

Title: Development of a state-of-the-art image reconstruction software platform using CUDA.

Abstract:

In this short talk I will present some highlights of my journey of developing stand-alone, state-of-the-art, GPU-based software platform for PET (positron emission tomography) image reconstruction. I will briefly explain the latest PET technology for event data acquisition as well as the processing stages the data has to go through in order to obtain meaningful physiological images. I will also touch on some techniques for kernel development in CUDA.
