| News > Research Assessment Exercise |
UCL has outstanding results in the recent Research Assessment Exercise that reinforces its position as one of the leading UK and global universities. The Department of Computer Science is particularly pleased with the results of the assessment which place it alongside Imperial College and Oxford in the small leading group at the top of the various league tables that can be constructed. The panel commended our "visionary strategy and sustainability". We are particularly pleased because 100% of our academic staff were submitted - 55 individuals - among the largest research submissions in computer science - and demonstrating collective research power as well as excellence.

Our results were as follows:

Quality Level 4* 3* 2* 1* U/C
Overall quality profile 35.0 45.0 20.0 0.0 0.0
Sub-profiles:
Research outputs 30.4 46.1 21.2 2.3 0.0
Research environment 43.5 53.5 3.0 0.0 0.0
Esteem indicators 36.5 37.5 18.9 4.7 2.4

The RAE website carries the full results for computer science and other "units of assessment. There is also an explanation of the five "quality levels".
