Fees and Funding
Scholarships and Studentships
While funding for PhD places is highly competitive, UCL does have a number of funding opportunities for both home/EU and overseas students.
Graduate Research Scholarships: available for both home/EU and overseas students; they consist of fees equivalent to the standard postgraduate UK/EU rate plus a maintenance stipend to cover living costs for full-time study. Overseas students who apply for the UCL-GRS will also be considered for the UCL-ORS scholarship.
Overseas Research Scholarships: available for overseas students; they consist of fee funding to cover the difference between overseas and UK/EU tuition fees.
Please see below for information on how to apply for UCL Graduate Research Scholarships (UCL-GRS) and UCL Overseas Research Student Awards (UCL-ORS).
For information about these scholarships and others available to potential students please see UCL’s scholarships and funding website.
Departmental Studentships
There is funding available for outstanding applicants who apply to the PhD programme.
All applications will be considered for funding at the Department of Computer Science's Admissions Panels in January and April 2013. To maximize your chances of securing funding, you are encouraged to submit a UCL application form by the 17th December 2012, although applications submitted later may still be considered for funding. No further application form is required. Successful candidates will be notified in February and in June 2013.
The department also recruits to project studentships, which have deadlines before the three major ones above. Applications for these will be evaluated and a decision made as the recruitment deadline necessitates, independently of the departmental application deadlines described above. Such studentships will be advertised here.
Applying for UCL Scholarships
UCL's scholarships and funding pages contain information on other sources of funding for both overseas and home/EU students.
Applicants for the UCL scholarships will be notified of their nomination by the department in February. The final decision will be made by the UCL Scholarships Office and successful candidates are normally notified by UCL in April.
Selection will be on academic excellence only. If you are unsure that your qualification meets the eligibility requirement, please contact UCL Admissions on admissions@ucl.ac.uk.
Applications will be considered for any of the scholarship schemes for which you are eligible, so only one funding application is necessary. You can find additional guidelines and download an application form for the above on http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/scholarships/scholarships/graduate/UCL’s scholarships and funding website. http://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/scholarships/graduate/overs-res/ors
Please make sure you read the guidelines carefully and include all necessary documentation, including your references and a one page research proposal. The second reference should be from your prospective supervisor.
Completed funding applications should be sent by Friday 8th February 2013 at the very latest to the Computer Science department:
