MSc Information Security Lecturers

The lecturers teaching the MSc in Information Security at UCL conduct cutting-edge research and have published numerous scientific articles at the world’s leading conferences in information security. The two main areas of research strength are cryptography and human centered approaches to security, privacy and trust.

Professor Yvo Desmedt

Yvo Desmedt is a Professor of Information Security. His main research areas are: cryptography, network security, critical infrastructure and computer security.

Yvo is Director of the International Association of Cryptology Research. He teaches COMPGA02 (Computer Security II).

Professor Angela Sasse

Angela Sasse is Professor of Human Centred Technology in the Department of Computer Science and is Head of the Information Security Research Group. Her main research areas are: usable and effective security, human centred approaches to security privacy and trust; and novel multimedia and communications technologies and services.

Angela teaches COMPGA10 (People and Security).

Dr. Nicolas Courtois

Nicolas Courtois is a Senior Lecturer in Information Security. His main research interests are: computational cryptanalysis of symmetric and asymmetric cyphers, and security in complex commercial systems.

Nicolas teaches COMPGA01 (Computer Security I) and COMPGA12 (Applied Cryptography).

Dr. Jens Groth

Jens Groth is a Lecturer in Information Security. His main research interests are: the theory and practice of cryptography, in particular: public-key encription, digital signatures, anonymity and privacy and zero-knowledge proofs.

Jens teaches COMPGA03 (Introduction to Cryptography)

Dr. David Clark

David Clark is Programme Director for the MSc Information Security and is a Senior Lecturer in Software Systems Engineering. His main research interests are: Program flow security, Slicing programs and software models, Semantics based malware detection, Software testing and Quantified information flow.

David will be teaching COMPGS10 (Language Based Security).

Dr. Jens Krinke

Jens Krinke is a Lecturer in Software Systems Engineering. His main research interests are: Program Analysis, Program Slicing, Clone Detection, Bug Detection, Taint Analysis and Information Flow Control.

Jens teaches COMPGS04 (Tools and Environments) and will be teaching Language Based Security.
