The UCL Advantage
Graduates from UCL are keenly sought by the worlds leading organisations. Recent UCL Computer Science graduates are particularly valued as a result of the Departments strong international reputation, strong links with industry, and ideal location close to the City of London.
First Destinations
The MSc in Computational Statistics and Machine Learning is designed to train students in both the practical and theoretical sides of machine learning. The MSc CSML is co-taught with the department of Statistics, meaning a significant grounding in Computational Statistics is also provided. We anticipate graduates to benefit directly from our excellent academic and industrial links, either by embarking on further study in a leading centre in Machine Learning/Statistics or by taking up a place in industry, for example in Search/Information Retrieval, Finance or Bioinformatics.
Testimonials
"Google anticipates actively recruiting doctoral level experts in Computational Statistics and Machine Learning for at least the next ten years as they already play a pivotal role in the development of our tools and products.
We see UCL and London as one of the foremost centres of Machine Learning expertise worldwide and wholly endorse their training programmes."
Yoram Singer, Google Research, USA
"Microsoft Research actively seeks outstanding graduates in the area of Computational Statistics and Machine Learning, which it considers central to one of its core objectives of creating value from data.
The CSML centre at UCL has a unique synthesis of expertise and offers world class training in Machine Learning, producing the kind of high calibre graduates from whom we would welcome applications."
Chris Bishop, Deputy Director, Microsoft Research, UK
'Before joining the MSc CSML degree, I had been involved in both research and industry projects in fields such as environmental modelling, geographical information systems and software engineering. If you are doing spatial data analysis, remote sensing or hidrology, this programme will extend the set of statistical techniques you are able to use. If you are doing business intelligence and using tools such as Clementine, SAS or SQL Server, you will understand the principles behind the algorithms they offer and realize that they only offer a small subset of the most powerfull pattern recognition algorithms available. On the other side, you should brush up your mathematical skills as well as you can before coming so you can trully benefit from what you are taught.
I definitely recommend the programme. It is as useful as it is challenging.'
