General information is available about

You can also download the prospectus (which is essentially a summary of the information on this website).

Academic Reading

If you want to know about the course content then consider reading "The Computer Image" by Alan H. Watt and Fabio Policarpo.  It is a good introduction to graphics, image processing and vision although it is quite out of date now.

If you want to evaluate whether your mathematical ability is suitable for the course then take a look at Engineering Mathematics by K.A. Stroud.  In particular, the sections on matrices and calculus are critical.

Open Days and Visits

There will be two open days during the year where you can come to UCL and meet the faculty and past and present students.  We will post more information nearer the time.

Occasionally, people who cannot make it to an open day pan informal visit to UCL. We can arrange for you to meetthe course director and talk to at least one current student.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  I am an artist who uses commercial programs.  Is this course suitable for me?

A.  No.  This course has a high-level of mathematical and programming content.  We are going to teach you how to write the next version of photoshop, not how to use it!

Q.  My first degree was not computer science.  Will my programming be sufficient?

A.  The course mainly uses Matlab with some small components of C++ or Java.  Prior exposure to Matlab is not assumed.  In general, if you have at some programming experience in C, Java or similar, you will be fine.  Generally people find the maths harder than the coding.

Q. Are there any scholarships available?

A.  Unfortunately, there are no current scholarships available for the M.Sc. CGVI.

Q.  Can I take the course part-time?  Will I have time to have a part-time job?

A.  No - the course is very intensive.  All past students will tell you that it is hard work and that it will fill up most of your time.  We would not recommend employment that is more than a few hours a week.
