Can I still apply if I'm not studying A-Level Mathematics?

You can still apply, but Mathematics is our main pre-requisite, and we are unlikely to be able to make you an offer unless you are studying it to A-Level standard or equivalent.

Can I visit the department to see the facilities?

Yes.  There are three ways to do this:

  1. All shortlisted UCAS applicants, who are living in the UK, will be invited to attend one of our UCAS Open Days.  These open days are held from November through to March and offer the best opportunity to see the department, to engage in some of the exciting things we do and to meet staff and students.

  2. We also host University-wide Undergraduate Open Days every Summer, during which students and their families can come and visit many different teaching departments at UCL.

  3. We can also offer guided tours of the department with a member of admissions staff.  Please see our Calendar Page for details of the next opportunity to visit.

Can students work during their studies?

Our degrees will demand around 40 hours per week of your attention.  For this reason we do not usually recommend students working during their studies.

Do you accept mature applicants?

Yes.  Applications from all age groups are welcome.  The entry requirements and application process is the same.

Do you accept transfers into the later years of your degrees?

Yes.  But only into the first or second years of the programmes.  See our Applying page for further details of the requirements and the procedure.

Do you offer a degree with a year in industry?

No.  But we help you to arrange internships at leading companies over the Summer vacation period so that you gain useful work experience, (but without the disruption to your studies).

Do you offer foundation courses?

Yes.  UCL has a highly regarded, science and engineering, international student foundation programme called the UPCSE.  Click here for further details.

Do you offer part-time courses?

No.  All of our undergraduate programmes are full time only.

Do you use the UCAS Clearing process to allocate spaces?

No.  We generally do not have any spare places to offer students in the UCAS Clearing process.

Will I have to pay the Home or Overseas tuition fee rate?

UCL will assess this when you make your application.  Click here for further details and to see the guidance we make available to applicants.

Will I have to attend an interview as part of the admissions process?

Unless you are out of the country or live too far away to travel to us, we would usually ask you to attend an Open Day as part of your application.  You will not be interviewed at the Open Day –there is little evidence that an interview is the best way to select candidates. We want you to be as relaxed as possible at the Open Day so that you are able to get the most from it.

What happens if I get made an offer but I don't meet the conditions?

We will automatically consider you for any spare places that are available if you fail to meet an offer that we make to you, so there is no need to request this.  As soon as we have done this we will update the status of your application in UCAS Track.

If unsuccessful, we will release your application as soon as possible so that you pursue other university places
