How to make your Application

  • All undergraduate applications to UCL (and all UK Universities), are made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, (UCAS).

  • Please do not apply directly to the department

  • UCL's UCAS code is UCL U80. There is no campus code

  • Further details and a link to UCAS to submit an application online can be found on the main UCL admissions web pages.

When to apply

We follow the UCAS application deadlines for our undergraduate programmes.

  • On time Applications: 15 September to 15 January
Opening date for the receipt of applications is 15th September for programmes starting the following year.  Please make your application to UCAS before 15 January as we can not guarantee that we will be able to consider candidates who apply after this time.

  • Late Applications: 16 January to 30 June
Late applications are still accepted after the UCAS January deadline subject to availability. Any applications received after 30th June are held by UCAS and will not be forwarded to us.

We do not generally have any spaces to offer UCAS Clearing applicants, so please apply before the deadline.

Our Admissions Policy

Our admissions policy is to select students on the basis of their aspirations and potential as well as examination performance. Entrance requirements are high but may be varied for those who show the motivation and ability to cope with our programmes.

What we look for in your application

While many of our applicants offer the conventional mathematics and physical sciences combination, our aim is to provide a rich and stimulating academic environment, so we welcome applications from students with a wide variety of academic and cultural backgrounds.

Applicants may thus take other combinations of subjects in the arts and humanities provided, of course, that the essential mathematics is among them. In particular, we are keen to admit students taking courses in, or with an interest in, subjects that relate to modern applications of computer technology in areas such as graphics, design, multimedia and human-computer interaction.

In all cases, some experience of computing at or outside secondary school can be an advantage, but is not essential.

Open Days

All applicants who have received offers from us will be invited to an Open Day, which is a great opportunity to find out more about the Department and meet current students and staff.

Transfers from Other Universities

Transferring into our 1st Year

Students from other universities are welcome to apply for our first year in competition with other applicants.  The application should be made via UCAS in the usual way.

Students wishing to transfer from other UCL degree programmes would usually need to apply for our first year.  This can be done via an internal transfer.  Students should speak to their current departmental tutor for advice on how to transfer.
